From the Sales Floor to the Boardroom: My 26-Year Journey

I am not a digital marketing trainer who learned from courses. I learned from the field.

My name is Anurag Roy. I am the Chief Mentor and Founder of DigiSkolae, a digital marketing training institute based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

I want to be straightforward with you about who I am and how I got here — because I think the path matters as much as the destination.

I have been working for 26 years. But I did not spend all of those years in digital marketing. I spent most of them in the real world — in sales, marketing, career counselling, business operations, and training. I worked with people, managed teams, advised students on career decisions, and trained sales and marketing professionals on the ground. That experience taught me things that no course or certification ever could.

Why I Made the Switch to Digital Marketing

In 2015, I made a deliberate decision to shift my focus.

Digital marketing was growing fast — faster than most people in Lucknow realised at the time. I could see that the way businesses find customers, and the way people find information, was changing in a fundamental way. I did not want to watch that shift from the sidelines. So I started learning. Seriously, practically, and with the same commitment I had brought to every role before it.

I did not just read about it. I practiced it. I ran campaigns, built content strategies, tested what worked, and studied what did not. By 2016, I was confident enough in what I had learned to start sharing it — and I began offering digital marketing training to others.

That decision changed the direction of everything that followed.

Building Something From the Ground Up

In 2019, I became the co-founder of a digital marketing institute in Lucknow. Over the next three years, I put everything I had into building it — the curriculum, the teaching approach, the placement process, and the culture of learning that I believed students deserved.

By 2022, that institute had grown into something I was genuinely proud of. And then I made another deliberate decision. I parted ways with that venture and started fresh.

In 2022, I founded DigiSkolae.

Starting over was not easy. But it gave me something valuable — the freedom to build exactly the kind of institute I had always envisioned. 

One where the teaching goes deeper than platform tutorials. One where students learn how marketing actually works, not just how to click the right buttons on a dashboard.

Why I Built DigiSkolae: Bridging the Thinking Gap

The problem I kept seeing — even in good institutes — was this. Students were being taught how to use tools. Very few were being taught how to think like a marketer.

The difference matters enormously.

A student who knows how to use a tool will be useful until that tool changes. A student who understands why a strategy works will adapt regardless of what tool comes next. Google has overhauled its advertising platform multiple times since I started teaching. Meta has rebuilt how it targets and delivers ads from the ground up. Every time that happened, students with a strong foundation adapted. Students who only memorised the steps struggled.

That gap between platform knowledge and real marketing thinking is the reason DigiSkolae exists.

My Teaching Philosophy in Plain Words

I do not believe in teaching students to chase algorithms. Algorithms change every few months. What does not change is the core question every business is always asking: how do I reach the right person, at the right moment, with the right message?

Everything I teach is built around answering that question — with honesty, with data, and with strategies practical enough to use the same week a student learns them.

I also believe that a good trainer does not stop learning. I still run live campaigns. I still manage real ad budgets for clients. I monitor Google’s updates, study how Meta’s Andromeda system shifts ad delivery, and test content strategies on real websites every month. What I learn in the field, I bring straight back into the classroom through our flagship digital marketing course. My students do not learn from outdated case studies. They learn from what is working right now.

My background in career counselling also means I do not just teach marketing. I help students figure out where they fit in the industry — whether that is as a performance marketer, a content strategist, an SEO specialist, or a full-stack digital marketing professional. That clarity makes a real difference when they are sitting across from a potential employer or their first client.
